2014 Parsons' Ridge Pinot Noir

The Parsons’ Ridge Block on the estate is situated on a saddle in the vineyard that places the vines in positions facing two different directions. As a result, grapes from the same site are expressive in different ways. We ferment these diverse lots separately, which we finesse through blending to come up with the final wine. The 2014 Parsons’ Ridge was picked at a brix of 24.8 in late September, striking a fine balance of sugar and acid. It was fermented 19% whole cluster, with indigenous yeasts for 23 days. Ageing occurred for 16 months in French barriqes of which 43% was new.
The typical aromatics from this growing site are again present in the 2014 vintage. Scents of ripe cherry, mushroom and cedar begin the nose, with hints of tobacco and cocoa nibs coming through slightly. Savory herbs, notably sage, intermingle with a slightly darker version of Parsons’ customary Bing cherry. Mission fig and cedar are also apparent, with bright acidity adding liveliness to the finish.
