2014 Cataclysm Pinot Noir

This wine is crafted with grapes from Block 1, which has the most mineral-rich soils on the estate vineyard due to the cataclysmic Missoula Floods and produces a rich, herbal and earthy Pinot Noir. This wine is made from a selection of the most expressive barrels from this block. Harvested at 23.8 brix on September 22nd, the fruit came in with a balanced ripeness. It was fermented with 60% whole berries for 19 days with native yeasts and aged for 16 months with French barriques, 19% new.
Wafts of cassis, Bing cherry and confectionary are accented by hints of bay. The mouth is juicy, offering cranberry, cherry and red berries that mix and mingle with bergamot. This wine evolves on the palate to more smokey flavors, underpinning the bright red berry flavors. The wood aging of this wine balances beautifully with the brightness of the fruit and the intriguing herb and spice notes. Zesty tannins add dimension to the perky finish.
